Report on Women's Activity Under Women's Federation
Date: 4th July 2025
Location: Family Federation Center, Mishoro Village, Chipata, Zambia
Introduction
The Women's Federation convened its second session focused on child malnutrition intervention, nutritional education, and family values. The event aimed to address urgent health concerns among children while empowering mothers through practical support and dialogue.
First Session: Child Health Assessment & Nutrition Intervention
The session opened with a prayer by Mrs. Lilian Ngoma, followed by a child weighing activity:
• 44 children were assessed by Solomon Banda (youth volunteer) and Mrs. Lupili.
• Critical Findings:
• A previously monitored 3-year-old girl’s weight dropped from 9kg to 8.6kg.
• Two 5.5-year-old children weighed 8.7kg and 9.1kg (severely underweight).
• Four 6-year-olds ranged between 10kg–12.5kg (below healthy weight).
• Most 5-year-olds weighed 13kg–14kg (marginally underweight).
• Response: Mrs. Lupili addressed 34 mothers with grave concern, emphasizing improved childcare practices and nutrition.
Nutrition Demonstration:
Mrs. Lupili demonstrated a high-protein bean-soya porridge blend to combat malnutrition. After serving the meal to children, each received 1kg of porridge mix to take home.
Second Session: Family Values & Women’s Health
Post-lunch activities included:
1. Clinic Visit Cancellation:
• A planned visit to the local clinic for medical collaboration was halted due to distance/logistical constraints.
2. "True Family Values" Dialogue:
• Mrs. Chanda read excerpts ("The Family" and "The House") in English, translated to Nyanja by Mrs. Lupili.
• Robust participant discussions ensued but remained incomplete due to time. Action: Continued in the next session.
3. Sanitary Pad Distribution:
• 17 new mothers received pads with usage instructions from Mrs. Lupili and Mrs. Chanda.
Conclusion
The event closed with a group photograph. Participants joined a concurrent Pastors’ Conference afterward.
Key Outcomes & Concerns:
• Urgent malnutrition crisis: Multiple children show severe underweight trends.
• Critical Need: Medical intervention for high-risk cases (e.g., the 3-year-old at 8.6kg).
• Positive Reach: 17 new mothers integrated into the support network.
Next Steps:
1. Prioritize clinic coordination for child health interventions.
2. Resume unfinished family values dialogue.
3. Expand nutrition training (e.g., advanced porridge blending).
